'We have been working for years now in the African Great Lakes region covering the ongoing news-events.  We witnessed the Rwandan genocide, more than 30 years of Mobutu regime in Congo, the following wars of the AFDL and the current war in the east of the country.  But still this part of Africa remains a dark spot for most of the international media and international aid agencies who tend to focus their attention on the problems in the east and the political problems in Kinshasa.  This leaves the rest of the area, where most of the Congolese live,  uncovered.

This does not mean that the people living in these areas do not need our attention or help ! On the contrary; the area of the Lukenie river, Kasaï Oriental, Bandundu and the Equatorial provinces of Congo remains one of the most underdeveloped areas of Africa.   We strongly believe that it is our duty as a journalist to talk about their problems, their hopes and their believing' s.  For several years now already public and economical life has come to a standstill in this part of the country that has been cut off completely from the rest of the country because most of the roads are in a very bad shape and most of the rivers have not been dredged anymore for several years.

By using a kayak as our most important tool of transport we will be forced to spend several months with the people living in this area. With our camera's we will record everything we'll see and publish our findings in Congolese and international media.  The people in this part of Congo need our help and our findings can contribute to a better understanding of their problems.

A 'bobongo' is a mythical dance of  the Congolese Ekonda's, a tribe living in the Congolese 'heart of darkness'.  Part of the Ekonda are Batwa-pygmies and the other part are Bantu's.  These people have been able to survive the worst of the worst in the past by focusing themselves on the surrounding they live in; the rainforest !  During this bobongo dance the Ekonda call upon the spirits of their ancestors to ask their advice how to face the future and to deal with their problems. For is this ritual can easily be used as a symbol for the Congolese will to survive the ongoing problems they face and to maintain their joy of life !
